Abstract

TB cases increased from 2021 to 2022, with 175 cases of latent TB, 54 confirmed pulmonary TB cases, and 34 BTA-positive cases based on sputum examination. Prevention efforts were carried out through health promotion using media as a tool to facilitate the delivery of health information. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of health promotion using video media compared to brochures on knowledge and attitudes toward pulmonary TB transmission prevention at H.A.H Hasan Public Health Center, Payaroba Subdistrict, Binjai City. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group method. The sample consisted of 30 residents living in the health center’s area, divided into two groups: 15 received video media and 15 received brochures. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. The Wilcoxon test results showed that video media was effective in increasing knowledge (p=0.001) but not attitudes (p=0.123). In contrast, brochures were effective in increasing both knowledge (p=0.001) and attitudes (p=0.028). The Mann-Whitney test indicated no significant difference in knowledge between groups (p=0.154), but a significant difference in attitude (p=0.039). It was concluded that videos were more effective in improving attitudes, while brochures were better for enhancing knowledge. It is recommended that health centers use appropriate media to help the community receive health information more effectively.
